Before work starts
- Confirm the available pressure and that hose, couplings, regulator and nozzle/attachment are rated and securely connected.
- Route and protect the hose so vehicles, doors and sharp edges cannot damage or pull it loose.
- Choose vacuuming, brushing or another lower-energy method when it can do the job instead of blowing dust/debris.
- Keep directed air away from skin, clothing and other people and control flying debris with guarding/PPE as required.
- Locate the shutoff and relieve pressure before changing fittings, clearing a blockage or servicing the line.

- Can the cleaning or task be done with a vacuum, brush or lower-energy method instead of blowing dust/debris into the air?
- How will the line be shut off and pressure relieved before changing fittings, clearing a blockage or servicing the equipment?
- Has anyone seen a hose, coupling or air nozzle fail or whip? What condition gave warning before the failure?
Make it real on the job
Point out the regulator/shutoff, inspect one hose connection with the crew, and demonstrate how pressure is relieved before a fitting is touched.
Close the talk
Before the crew starts, everyone should be able to explain the hazard, point to the control being used today, and name the condition that would make the work stop.
