Door count is only deducted for trim that stops at openings.

For a rectangular room, perimeter is 2 × (length + width). Add rooms together for the measured run.

Baseboard, shoe and chair rail stop at door openings. Crown moulding normally continues above them, so no door deduction is made.

The calculator adds your waste allowance, then rounds up to whole stock lengths so the order quantity is practical.
